23rd February 2019, during an alcohol and drug fuelled session at her flat in Frensham Way, Harborne, Birmingham,Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow stabbed boyfriend Gary Cunningham to death. She stabbed him multiple times, one of the wounds, behind his knee severed an artery. He was found outside the flat in a common area by a delivery driver in a pool of blood.
When police arrived she coldly stepped over his body.
10th September 2019, at Birmingham Crown Court, charged with murder, but found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility due to substance induced mental health issues. She was given an 18-year sentence by Judge Simon Drew.
May 2020, CONVICTION QUASHED - The court of appeal ruled that the jury were not directed to consider self defense as a defense.Therefore the conviction was ruled 'Unsafe'. Olivia remained held on remand in prison.
2nd July 2021, at a re-trial the jury at Birmingham Crown Court found 26-year-old Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, after a three-week trial. She was sentenced to serve 11-years in prison.
