Kayley Mahood, aged 30, and boyfriend, 31-year-old, Oliver O'Toole had a violent relationship, both having used violence against the other in the past.
Sunday 25th July 2021, after another row, Mahood claimed she had been punched in the face, causing an injury to her eyelid, She then attacked her boyfriend with a knife, allegedly in self defense.
Kayley Mahood was arrested at her home on Rosliston Road, in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, after neighbours called the police, after hearing a loud argument. Police attended, and found Mr O'Toole slumped against a garden wall with a 4cm stab wound to his chest, he died at the scene, despite the attendance of paramedics. Police found a knife d in the kitchen which had blood on it.
Tuesday 27th July 2021, Kayley Mahood appeared before magistrates at Stafford Crown Court charged with murder.
Wednesday 12th January 2022, at Stafford Crown court, Mahood pleaded not guilty to murder, she claimed she acted in self defense.
Tuesday 25th January 2022, Kayley Mahood is cleared of murder, but found guilty of manslaughter, the jury accepting her self defense claim.
