Thursday 21st April 2011, Elderly couple Guiseppe Massaro aged -80, and his wife Caterina, aged -77, were found dead at their home in Woden Road, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, by their grand daughter Lindsey Booth.
The couple had been attacked with a claw hammer and a knife. Mr Massaro was stabbed in his head, neck and body, one of his wounds was 14cm deep. Mrs. Massaro bled to death after being stabbed in the neck.
Police confirmed their house had been ransacked and property, including two flat-screen televisions, stolen. Their car had also been taken.
Thursday 26th January 2012, Polish immigrant Ireneusz Bartnowski stands trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, he denies murder.
Thursday 16th February 2012,After the three-week trial, the jury of six men and six women took just over six hours to find Bartnowski guilty of the double murder.
Bartnowski was jailed for life and told he must serve a minimum of 34 years.
