Nicol had a busy year working
two jobs, one in a Chinese restaurant, the other as a
welder, He was a devoted Rangers Football fan, He got out
£350 from the bank on his first day off in a long while and
brought himself the Rangers football kit.
7th August 1999, In the
Local pub, The Falcon Bar, in Stirling, with friends,
someone lit a cigarette, somehow the flame got onto the new
Rangers football shirt and burnt a whole. Nicol left for
home angry and agitated.
A while later outside his home
in Mayfielsd Court, Nicol came across neighbour George Reid,
who happened to be wearing a Celtic football shirt.
Neighbours later reported hearing tithe two men arguing in
the street. Nicol attacked Reid, stabbing him in the chest,
despite the injuries Nicol made George walk through
neighbouring streets, leaving a trail of blood, to a piece
of waste ground close by. Nicol the set about Reid with a
seven-inch knife, nearly severing his head and almost
cutting off an ear. In total his frenzied attack amounted to
100 stabbings. The victim also had defence wounds on his
hands and arms, as well as his legs.
Once on the ground and
incapacitated, Nicol then set fire to Reid's Celtic shirt,
leaving the man for dead he went home, cleaned up and went
to bed.
The next day his mother realised
something was not right, when questioned by police Nicol
admitted the murder, adding "I don't know how people who
get away with it feel. I have been carrying this for eight
or nine hours."
Wednesday 17th November 1999,
Sentenced to life with a minimum term of 15-years.
Sentence cut to 12-years on
appeal.
February 2009, Nicol is
being allowed out on day release to study for a degree at
Napier university.
