Tuesday 10th June 2008,
.Kevin Tripp, aged 57, was punched by Tony Virasami in
Sainsbury's in Merton High Street.
Tripp, from south London, suffered serious head injuries
and died in hospital the following day, Wednesday.11th
June 2008.
Richardson pushed in front
of shopper Adam Prendergast, as she went to buy a packet
of cigarettes.
She phoned Virasami, who was waiting in a car nearby,
and when he came into the store she pointed out Mr
Prendergast.
However, Virasami mistook Mr Tripp for the man and hit
him. The unprovoked attack on an innocent bystander was
captured by CCTV footage.
Tony Virasami, 37 of Sedgehill Road, Catford, was remanded
in custody by Wimbledon magistrates.
Thursday, 26 February 2009, Trial starts at
Southwark Crown Court.
Virasami pleaded guilty to
manslaughter but Richardson denied the charge.
Richardson, told the court she was shocked and disgusted
when her boyfriend hit the wrong person.
Tuesday 1st April 2009,
Antonette Richardson was jailed for 18 months and
ex-boyfriend Tony Virasami received four years for
manslaughter. The jury took seven hours to deliver the
11-1 majority verdict.
At the time of the attack
Virasami was on bail, tagged and under curfew for
shoplifting, while Richardson has previous convictions
for deception and handling stolen goods, the court
heard.
