2008 Thomas Nugusse punched ex-girlfriend Arsema Dawit
at a McDonald's restaurant in Walworth, south-east London,
giving her a black eye, after she had said hello to a male
friend.
30th April 2008, Arsema visited Kennington police
station where she made a complaint of assault and threats to
kill from Nugusse.
Monday 2nd June 2008, The body of Arsema Dawit was
found in a lift at Matheson Lang House, Baylis Road,
Waterloo, London.
Arsema, who had turned 15 on the Friday, is believed to have
returned home to the block of flats when she was attacked.
Paramedics arrived at the scene within four minutes but were
unable to revive the teenager. She died from over 30 stab
wounds. After Arsema was killed, Nugusse made a 999 call in
which he admitted having stabbed her.
Thursday 5th June 2008, Thomas Nugusse, aged 21, of
Ilford, east London, appeared before Camberwell Green
magistrates charged with her murder.
While on remand he tried to hang himself, causing severe
brain injuries.
Wednesday 20th May 2009, A jury at the Old Bailey was
ordered to find Nugusse Guilty of the Act or not.
Conventional guilty or not guilty was not suitable as he was
unable to plead due to the server brain damage, he was given
an indefinite hospital order.
Thursday 26th
April 2012, Arsema Dawit's mother has won a High
Court case for a full inquest into her daughter's death.
