FACTFILE

Stefano Brizzi came to London from Italy, in 2011 and got a job as an IT analyst at Morgan Stanley in the City of London, he subsequently was unable to hold down the job after he began addicted to methamphetamine, (Crystal Meth).

1st April 2016, Brizzi met PC Gordon Semple via the Grindr smarthphone app. Both men were into strange sex games.

PC Semple and Brizzi had discussed, via Grindr messages, their future plans, this involved bondage, sadomasochism, suffocation and the use of drugs.

Once back at Brizzi's flat the sex games may have started, Brizzi later claiming that this is how Semple died, and that it was accidental. He claimed a dogs lead slipped and accidentally strangled PC Semple.

7th April 2016, Brizzi was eventually caught when neighbours reported a foul smell coming from his flat.

When police went to Brizzi's flat they found "globules" of human flesh floating in the bath, which was full of acid, plus bags containing bones and pools of human fat in the oven. Brizzi was a fan of the TV show breaking Bad, in which there is a scene where a drug dealers body is disposed off in a bath of acid.

20th October 2016, At trial he denied murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. He also admitted a charge of obstructing a coroner in the execution of their duty,

He denied he had tried to eat part of PC Semple's flesh, but forensic experts say he certainly did.

Jurors found Brizzi guilty of murder by a majority of 10-2 after five days of deliberation

12th December 2016, He was sentenced to serve life in prison, with a minimum term of 24 years.

Sunday 5th February 2017, Brizzi died while serving his sentence at HMP Belmarsh prison.
