Dr. Perea was a dental biologist
at Leeds University.
Perera came to the UK from his native Ceylon, (Sri Lanka),
he met, then married his wife Dammika, they subsequently had
two children. In 1981
he convinced his wife to go to Sri Lanka and adopt a local
child, them named Nilanthe, they re-named her Philomena.
By 1983 neighbours became
suspicious an not seeing the little girl for some time.
Police were called. Perera spread a web of not very
believable lies, none of which the police were able to
verify, in the end he said she had gone back to Sri Lanka,
but her family said they had not seen her since she left in
1981. In February 1985
a wortk collegue found a human jaw bone in a drawer, and a
jar containing bone fragments, police were called and Perera
was arrested. Perea
killed his adopted daughter, Nilanthe Perera
The majority of the body was found in plant pots around the
house, and various containers in his office at work. He had
tried, unsuccessfully, to dispose of the body using acid.
But it is a long process, and he was caught while they were
still dissolving.
11th march 1986 Perea
sentenced to life in prison, his wife was jailed for
concealing the crime.
