home with his friend David McFall after watching a
football match in a local pub.

Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with murder.
June 20011, Maxwell pleaded guilty to 'culpable
Homicide" at Glasgow High Court. The crown
rejected his plea to culpable homicide, he was therefore
kept on remand to appear on a murder charge. Co-accused
Barry Smith pleased not guilty to murder.
October 2011, Smith changed his pleas from not
guilty, to guilty of 'Culpable Homicide''. While Maxwell
pleaded guilty to murder.
heard that both Maxwell and Smith were on bail at the
time of the attack. At the time of the attack, Maxwell
was on bail having been convicted and sentenced to 32
months for stabbing someone three times with a knife.
The court were
read out a long list of Maxwell's previous convictions.
These included at least two serious assaults, possession
of an offensive weapon, breach of the peace and a number
of breach of bail offences.

5th December 2011, at The High Court in Perth, Judge
Lady Dorrian sentenced Maxwell to life imprisonment,
saying he must serve a minimum 19 years.
